Design Apparatus is a design focused architectural practice founded in 2009 in Spokane, WA, and now based in Encinitas, CA. Our work is spread out over the west coast of the United States with projects as far north as Kodiak, Alaska and as far south as Santa Barbara, California and throughout the Pacific Northwest. Our practice is based around George J. Hideg, a registered architect in both California and Washington, as the principal design architect. We have a wide practice that has involved high quality modern residences, small commercial projects and boutique retail projects. A majority of our public projects have employed the community workshop design process to facilitate community buy-in. We have operated with the core idea that good design creates architecture that is beautiful and sustainable while being grounded in the concern for budget and schedule.
George J. Hideg: Educated at the University of California, San Diego and the University of Washington, George has received a BA in Architectural Studies and a M.Arch. Having had years of experience in the building trades before going back to school later in life, his design work is informed with a deep understanding of how buildings are “put together”. “As an architect, I think that it is important to always keep looking for something new. We interact with buildings every day and it is in this interaction that I try to seek new potential in architecture. Much of our work provides an opportunity to realize fresh ideas about buildings and their relationship to its site and the interaction between its materials.”
Design Apparatus has participated in a number of projects in the Wildfire Urban Interface (WUI). In order to assist victims of the recent California wildfires, we are offering our services to all victims at a significant discount:
